REASON FOR MY LATEST ABSENCE FROM EP | mahler's Blog

I came home from hospital yesterday after nearly three weeks.    I was due for radiotherapy on 25th Feb for 4 weeks, after the breast cancer operation told about in my previous blog, however - other things happened.  I was waiting in hospital for an appointment when all of a sudden a black veil formed over my left eye and I could not see for a few moments.  This happened a few more times during the week and my granddaughter and daughter took me to Moorfields A and E on Sunday 25th Jan.  They thought I had a blocked blood vessel or that I had had a minor stroke (TIA), however I was not affected in any way from it.  I was referred to Ealing hospital and saw a neurologist, who ordered an immediate neck scan and it was found that the main artery on the left side of my neck was 90% blocked and I was in danger of an imminent major stroke.   I went into hospital and the op was scheduled for four days time.  However - they did a scan of my stomach and kidneys and found that in my left kidney there is a large mass, which looks malignant, also there is a small aortic aneurism in my stomach.  The neck op was cancelled three times but took place two days ago on Tuesday, took five hours.    I was sent home the day after - yesterday, got a massive plaster all down one side of my neck, can't wash my hair and it is full of goodness knows what.  For the actual op I had to be awake for a lot of the time, because if they worked on the wrong part of the artery then I would have had a stroke.  Anyway the surgeon was very pleased with the results and said that if he had left it any longer then I would not be here today.   So radiotherapy now starts on the 9th for 4 weeks, the kidney op, which means it will have to be removed entirely, will be in about 6 weeks.   Am I a happy bunny?  No way!  I am waiting for the next thing to happen - perhaps my leg will fall off!  I could not contact people as the ward I was in I could not get a signal on my phone, and I was in a ward that was full of old people with dementia, and they treated me a lot of the time as though I was the same, which thoroughly annoyed me!!   I am now trying to wade through the 200 odd emails etc that are here on my computer, so thought a blog would reach some of the lovely people that have been wondering where I have been.

Oh my goodness .. you have been through hell and back! I am a bit speechless! I can imagine how you must have felt on the ward ... that must have been immensely frustrating. Just great to have you back and lots of love and prayers for your operation to come .

Oh mahler, I'm sorry to hear of all your problems but i'm glad your still around. I also have a heart problem in my stomach area on the left side. my doctor says it's open to about 2 and they won't operate until it gets to 6. So I just take my meds and hopefully I won't need any surgery. I hope you will feel better soon! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Oh Ruth, You have been through the wringer and come out smarter the other side, you are such a wonderfully strong, loved person that I am sure you have everything you need. I have thought about you these past few months and was praying that you were ok. I just cant believe all the **** youve gone through and can still laugh about things. I hope and pray that after this last 'little' thing you have to go through you find some peace , sit back and relax and breath a sigh of relief that you have survived another crisis, then get back on the trail of being an adventurous lady! I do admire you courage and strength. Love from your friend Lizzy xxx
