Kidney Operation Update | mahler's Blog

My operation to remove my left kidney was brought forward to the 18th.  That went well.

I came home yesterday afternoon, feel rather weak but glad to be home.  The hospital and nurses were very nice, can't say the same for the food though.   I was in surgery for 5 hours, I have extremely little pain, just a bit of soreness.  I have a lot of staples which have to be removed at the surgery next Friday.   For four days and nights I was totally demented and hallucinating.  In fact totally off my head.  I have been told that I was wandering up and down the wards, waking all the patients, trying to remove all my clothes and tubes, was held down by patients and nurses.  I was rude to everyone and talking absolute rubbish.   I did not know any of this, I felt in a happy place, the ward was festooned with garlands of flowers, beautiful pictures were on the walls and doors and kept changing,  Beautiful bunches of red ribbons were floating through the air which i tried to catch, people and things were reduced in size, people were like dwarves and came and peered over the end of my bed.   It was not until two days after the operation that I knew it had been done!  I had to be shown the scars!   When I had my breast cancer op I was given Tramadol,  this sent me on a sort of trip, like an LSD one I have been told, but nothing like the above.  So when I went in hospital for this op I told the nurses, anaesthetist and doctors not to give me any tramadol.     It now appears that I had been given this drug as well as morphine,  and goodness knows what else,I was loaded with it, goodness knows why because I was not in pain.  After a couple of days Jackie (daughter)and Charlotte (granddaughter) insisted all drugs were taken off me and it took me a couple of days to get back to normal.  They all thought I was senile dementia.   I am furious, but they are denying giving me the drug.  Jackie phoned a friend of mine who had worked with eminent Harley Street doctors and oncologists and was told that these two drugs had worked against each other, and one of the surgeons is going to write to my surgeon on my behalf.   Jackie spent hours, day and night, insisting the nurses bleep doctors and getting them to the ward to answer questions, she commandeered the computers at the nurses station and looked at all the results of every test I had, they were all normal.   A psychiatrist was sent to ask me the usual questions, he asked what year it is, from then on I answered all the questions that I knew he would ask before he even asked them!  He was right confused by me!  Anyway I was given a 100% mental state value!   The results of what was found in my kidney will not be known for three weeks, but when i go back for the results I will be raising merry hell.  After I had regained my senses I was treated with kid gloves and they were definitely trying to cover up for things.   So I am back to normal, fully compos menus.  I just feel very lacking in energy.   If anyone else has had such an experience then I would love to hear about it.
