Saturday 17th May | mahler's Blog

After all the hot weather we have been having it has now turned very cool, today a lot of rain is forecast.  During the hot weather the water in my goldfish pond evaporated a lot, so I have had to refill it this morning.

I don't know where the time has gone this morning, it was not until I felt hungry that I realised I had not got dinner underway, I now have a lovely chicken curry simmering, I wish it would hurry up and finish because I am getting really hungry.

I spoke to a neighbour this morning, he was telling me about his wife, she is schizophrenic and he is having such a bad time with her, she has been throwing things about in the house and yesterday she was throwing a golf ball at a neighbour's window.  He really will have to get her medication adjusted, he has put up with this for 40 years, poor man.

Got two bills in the post this morning, but they can wait because thery don't have to be paid until June.  I am looking forward to the 4th June as I will be going away to Cornwall with my daughter and son-in-law for a few days, I hope the weather cheers up by then.

Must go and see how my dinner is getting along.................................

feel sorry for your neighbor, maybe he can find a nice place for her to stay, like a nursing home, who specializes in this, I have a son who is specail needs child, and he had to live with another family. it's really hard to let go but it really helped me out a lot.....

He really should have found somewhere for her to be, but I think , in spite of what he goes through, he is afraid of being on his own.

I have a 25 year old schizophrenic son, so I totally understand your neighbor's suffering. We juct could NOT get my son to function (he wanted to sleep constantly) when he was living at home. It tore me up to force him to live in a group home, he was just 17 at the time. I'm so glad now that we did so. He's out in his own apartment now. He has ups and downs-was hospitalized for 3 months last summer. The silver lining of that hospitalization was that he was finally convinced by doctors to try a different medication which has REALLY made great improvements in his illness. Its called Clozaril- you might suggest to your neighbor that he ask his wife's Dr. about it. My younger brother was schizphrenic, also. Its a horrible disease that robs people of so much at a young age.

I have worked ith the mentally ill for most of my working life and know how difficult it is for families to cope. I have advised my neighbour as much as I can and he is going to have a word with her doctor when he calls next week to give her the injection, which she has fortnightly.
